Our Story

HŪG (pronounced HUUG) is the ceramic studio of married artists Seya and Taylor Hug, based in Zürich, Switzerland. We make sculptural furniture and lighting entirely by hand, from start to finish, without molds or a factory. Just the two of us. Every piece begins as a single volume of clay that we cut, take apart and reassemble to explore the tension between mass and void: the weight of the material and the space it leaves open. The forms that come out of this land somewhere between the very old and the very new. Because every piece is made by hand, no two are ever the same, and the marks of the making stay in as part of the work.
